Upcoming Class Events and Activities For pictures from past reunions see: Class News Reunions - May 31 - June 3, 2012 Not sure if you paid your Class Dues? Did you lose the return envelope? Contact our Class Treasurer! Mac Brown Letter from the Class President September, 2011 Dear Classmate, Hope everyone is enjoying this torrid summer. Lee Kaplan, our Class Vice President, always extols the virtues of living in Houston as compared to the Northeast, weather-wise. Once again he is correct as Houston was actually cooler this summer than the greater New York/New Jersey area. The guy is never wrong!!! 38th Reunion Report and Planning Reminder for our 39th and 40th Reunions Over the Memorial Day weekend, we had 50 classmates, along with their families join us back on campus. Because of the DeVeaux “free is better” Doctrine, everyone enjoyed the free luncheon arranged by Reunions Chair, Barry Richardson. We were treated to tunes by the NasSouls, one of the student singing groups. Their performance ended with the singing of Happy 60th Birthday to the class (Jane Leifer didn’t pay attention to the song since she is not yet 60). We then all helped eat the Class Birthday cake. The weather was fine and the P-rade was spectacular even though our class starting point is getting closer to the beginning of the P-rade. Photos of the Reunion are posted on our Class website: (http://www.princeton1973.org/classnews.html) thanks to the work of Macie Hall. Next year Reunions will be held from May 31 through June 3. We are planning our usual class lunch on Saturday, June 2. Please mark your calendars. It’s hard to believe, but we are starting the planning process for our 40th Reunion which will take place from May 30 to June 2, 2013. That means we will need your help. A lot of hard work goes into a Major Reunion and Barry Richardson, our Reunions Chair, can’t do everything himself. We need volunteers for Registration, Food, Housing, Beverages, Themes, Costumes, Entertainment, etc. If you would like to be part of a great experience, let me (jimdiorio@alumni.princeton.edu) or Barry (brichar906@aol.com) know how you would like to help. Annual Giving The University closed the campaign on June 30. Thanks to the efforts of Class Agent Neal Goins, Bob Auray, George Frelinghuysen and others, we raised $238,000 and had 48.8% participation. Overall, the Annual Giving Campaign raised $50 million with a participation rate of 61.3%. We fell slightly short of our Class goals of $250,000 and 50.1% participation, respectively. Please consider a contribution before year-end to reap the tax deduction. Annual Dues No matter what we do, we can’t seem to get our dues participation over 25%. I may have to set up a bi-partisan Super Committee to find out why twice as many folks give to AG as opposed to class dues. I’m not going to bore you with all the great things you get for your $50. Please, just pay your dues. The Class needs your support! Note that dues cannot be included in donations, they must be kept separate: if not, the University gets a larger donation and the class loses out. Please make your check out for $50 payable to “Princeton University-Class of 1973” and mail it to Mac Brown. Mac has just moved. His new address is 2939A North Nottingham Street, Arlington, Virginia 22207. Class Activities Thanks to Ellen Porter Honnet we are planning a class reception at her home in Cambridge after the Harvard football game on October 22. Ellen hosted a similar reception two years ago and it was a great success. The cost is being picked up by the Class (another example of the DeVeaux Doctrine at work) so please come and join us. Ellen’s house is located at 9 Athens Street, Cambridge. If you are interested in stopping by after the game send me an e-mail at jimdiorio@alumni.princeton.edu. This year we’re also planning on a Class table in Jadwin for the Yale football game in Princeton on Saturday November 12. As we have done in the past, we will probably be teaming up with the Classes of ’74 and ’75, respectively. Class News Our Class Secretary, Nancy Cassels, thanks you for keeping her informed of the activities of Class members. Keep the news coming! You can e-mail Nancy at ncassels@interlog.com. Class History Our Class Historian, Marta Richards, would like any Princeton memorabilia or interesting photos or articles about the Class and Classmates. You can e-mail Marta at marta73@alumni.princeton.edu. I hope to see you at our 39th Reunion as well as upcoming class events. If you want to connect with old friends, involvement in Class activities is a lot of fun. We would welcome your participation. Just contact me directly at 201-404-0298 or jimdiorio@alumni.princeton.edu. Regards, Jim DiOrio
